At the end of last year, I gave up the dream of a tractor and instead bought a ride on mower. It’s first cut was June 1st and the rides which went well, carefully not out of 2nd gear. However, delving into the higher grass, it struggled, and broke down. Keri and her young charge came the rescue, but in the end we saw the remnants of the belt that drives the cutters come out of the end, and realised we were done for. With a new belt delivered, with youtube at the ready amazing Keri, with her perfect nails, got down and undid all the bolts and parts that held the cutting part of the mower to the body, to put the new drive belt in.
In the end we surrendered to Linstead Garden Machinery. They provided the afternoons entertainment as we all came to witness the procedure.
I still curse the ignorance of being naive farmer for not getting the field harrowed after the last plough, for there are still some far too rough areas for the mower to attempt.
