Oct B&W Bill Jackson, shades of grey

2015 09 Bill Jackson Wood

The moon is huge. Bill the night recorder is in the wood. The dog and I find him by the pond. Camera set up on a tripod he typically does a 4 minute exposure. It is all the different shades of grey, he explains.

Born to a Perugian mother who at 17 ran away with an English soldier passing through Italy. She came to England, unmarried, with two boy children. Too proud to return to her homeland with her tail between her legs, she toughed it out in Coventry. Bill moved out, north, south west, London, Leeds following women or work. With Deborah, it was after their children left home that they decided to take the rug from under their feet, sell up, buy 10 acres and a Suffolk Long House, outside Halesworth in the middle of fields.

We dined with them, Barry and I, a few nights ago, in their glorious spacious, theatrical barn.  I returned regretting and bemused at how I had settled for a bungalow.

Exhibition in Walpole

Bill described the 8 framed photogaphs as ‘Work in Progress’. He’d made his own frames out of drift wood, beautifully weathered silver grey. First time to Cally’s pad, and impressive roll of land outside Walpole called M…  Hall.
