Glorious sharp winter sun after the first frost of the year, blue skies, golden leaves, black straight trunks.
Graham arrives early to the wood. ‘I wanted to prepare before the hoards arrive’.
‘One thing I’ve learnt and loved about this job’, he says, ‘ is using the draw knife. I’ve been looking on ebay and there are draw knives for all sorts of different tasks. Now I’m getting boring’, he catches himself.
Paul, on the compost toilet, is thinking steps.
‘Have you got your little plan, Graham?’ he asks
‘It’s YOUR little plan, Paul’, says Graham with an inviting smile. ‘Now is your time. I’ve done hundreds of steps’.
At Graham’s invitation, I tried the draw knife, and agree it is a pleasure to draw it along the bark edge of the oak. Graham has made the shelves. Using the draw knife at home he prepared the brackets to hold them. The steps are done, tested by Jo, one replaced.
On Saturday, it’s all hands on. Ben arrives to do the fire, helped by Graham and Paul. Lunch with Michelle and Ed, advising on solar. 12volt. Forget computer, use an iPad. Jo and MJ rocked up and helped with roof work. Ben almost got done, but not enough to light the fire.

The compost toilet seat!

Every cabin has to have a chimney, as Paul observed.
