Reddisham Great Wood

(Another lockdown wood). Once back from my first visit to Reddisham Great Wood, and thwarted by the Private Signs, I saw on the map that had I gone a field further, there was a track through a section of the wood.

On another glorious fresh sun day, set off by bike again, this time without dogs and with Rupert (who’d arrived from dangerous London and was issolating in East Lodge). Passed the early spotted orchids, passed the bridle path where I turned into last time, over the common, and right at the top, where we found the footpath sign, cashed our bikes and walked. Through fields, some small and warm enough to be like walled gardens, to the edge of the wood.

Oaks on the border, but predominantly Ash, some with die back. Inside, passed a beautiful hornbeam (beautiful because of the greenness of the leaf),  a still pond. A fern still furled beside.  Early spotted orchids.

And bird song, such bird song, echoing around the woodland.
