Do you remember when Mars was bronze bright in the south and to the west beside bright Jupiter was Saturn?
So began the long poem to the year I’d been working on, and in fact said to begin our evening in the wood, a gloriously clear night, when as Nicky pointed out you could even see the arch around Orion. Who knew what the latest rules were – Borris latest decree had been dramatic with the rising r number and new virus strain even more contagious. But the wood and outside space felt safe and universal, thr fire cleansing and it was equinox. Sara and others saw the near conjunction of Jupiter and saturn but I was baking and saw cloud then so did not.
I’d invited our fellow Greenparty workers, Annette, andrew, Kim and nick, Chris. Last minute graham and Nicky. Steve and Helen who’d just joined us. Finally sarah and bo, forest school bo, who stole the show.
It was Bo’s idea to do a tour of the solar system. He was captivating from the start, explaining Mercury takes an age to turn but spins fast around the sun. He’d remembered so much, a natural presenter. And We adults were open for the surprise of learning from a child and enlivened for it.
The years poem went down well, remarkably bo was in it, as were links to those there. Graham, Socratic dialogue. Etc. Sarah felt inspired to do one herself.
The food – ottalengi full Mediterranean tart – was fine, as was the mulled wine, prepared by michael, and when everyone had left we heated it up again and sat quietly in The cabin before turning in. Michael like a kid again so happy in the cabin. The fire warmed us through the night, the dogs only got up once to bark at a wood visitor. In the morning g the sound of rain on the tin roof comforted us.
