Clive and Tinks came to the land late July, and gave me hope. Clive was actually impressed with my burgeoning tree nursery, the whips surviving well in the ditch and in water, thanks also to the wonderful wet summer we are having. We walked through the field, alive with butterflies enjoying the thistle heads: Spear Thistle, Spiny Thistle, Burdock. He alerted me to the diversity that was being expressed by the soil for the first year left to find its own way. Clover, Scarlet Pimpernel, small blue bugloss, and thousands of wild panseys. I am inspired to spend some time documenting the joy that is there, and not worry about the ragwort!

Not only did he lift my spirits, Clive and Tinks and Virginia pulled some ragwort along the field edge.

Tinks and Clive had come up to visit Thorington, where we thoroughly enjoyed a picnic and saw and heard the YoungUns sing their ballards, stories of extraordinary ordinary people. I first heard them at Folk East singing Dark Water, and followed them since.
