Born May 2009, Kali died aged 16 near mid summers day 2025. We buried him in Kaliwoods. Here is a poem written by Jeremy Solnick about that evening:

His beginnings were in the Sahara desert, the last big adventure, Romford Road to Timbuktoo, when I came back from that knowing I wanted a dog and now. If not now, when? Ph’s dog Minka was pregnant, and I chose Kali out of that litter. I’d never ‘had’ a dog before (I don’t count Mandy – what an embarrassing name – my fathers poodle who I loved of course).
Here’s a short movie of those first days, after collecting him with Loraine, he came back to the caravan at Holton Hall Park. It was the first movie I’d ever made (needs serious cutting!). They call it dog training, but of course it’s owner training, and I learned much at Westhall – the trainer was tough, which I needed.
It was after the next adventure – a campervan with Kali through 17 countries, that I returned and bought Kaliwoods. Here Kali is just after the Clark and Simpson auction when we both went to the wood with a bottle of champagne to wonder at the adventure before us. It was natural that the wood was named after him.
Here’s a photograph taken by Stephen Wolfenden, of Kali and I in the wood on a summers day.

Our travel blog is here. With some nostalgic pleasure I have selected a few (100!) photographs from that from overland journey, Felixstowe to Turkey and back, including some iconic ones of Auschwitz and Srebrenica here. They start at the end, Hook of Holland, Belgium with Cathy, through the bridge of Mostar etc. Lorraine reminded me of this photograph of Kali and I on a ski lift in Zakopane.
