At a party in Walberswick to celebrate Jeremy’s 64th birthday, I sat next to an interesting man, who spoke to me at length about his wife’s struggle with Lymes disease and their battle with the conventional medics to get it diagnosed and treated. Later he told me he was a photographer, and I realised he was Stephen Wolfenden who’d taken the photograph that I had just purchased from our local gallery of Barsham Fair. He mouthed to his wife across the table ‘She’s bought Barsham Fair photo. But his wife thought I was the woman in the Barsham Fair photograph. And so for a minute, I was that wonderful free woman, breathing fire in Barsham Fair.
Pete Smith told me of his time with Foospan, 5 years on the road (like Felicity Kendle in Shakespear wallah), travelling unravelling.
Tucked up in my sleeping bag, first night in the bed in the static, dog beside me. Stephen Wolfenden’s photograph hung up, those two free souls dancing, carefree, she lunging forward, he bending backward.
