I’ve been reluctant to move out of my small orbit I noticed. Too stuck behind a computer screen. Remember those lock down days when we visited a wood a week?
David King of Kings Landscaping spoke to me a while ago about his wood, and noticing this stay at homeness in me, asked if I could visit. He bought it as a parcel of land that is part of a larger wood bought up by woodlands.co.uk and broken into economically and practically parcels for people to buy and manage.
Titsal Wood, Shadingfield is the offical title. It is a SSSI woodland, ancient woodland coppice hornbeam with standards. It included what David described as the witches Hornbeam, a tree known to be one that offerings were made to.
He loved the wood, had only joy from it, particularly involving the grandchildren, for whom he had built a fabulous viewing platform, high into the canopy. Useful for just watching but also for sniper shooting of deer and squirrels, which he keeps on top of with his neighbour, a character of a man who we met with his 4 black labradors.
I was most impressed with the laid hedge he’d done. Making the use of the unusually high coppice, he laid to that height and it worked brilliantly. A hornbeam hedge around the pond.
