By random chance he followed me into the wood. After a firm reminder that with a TPO wood, I needed to seek permission to fell/coppice/cut back ANY tree – or at least any tree born prior to the TPO which was an early one, 1949. Ah so that’s ok, we’ve just felled silver birch which would have been self sown. Phew. But belt and braces in future: any work on trees in the wood, send two photos, to get a 5 day exemption.
I can cut 5 cubic meters a quarter legally but also with permission with a felling licence.
He is both clearing up after Fiona Mac, the previous TPO officer, and looking at re-appraising TPOs. I was quitely pleased to hear in Fiona’s notes, I am described as an owner who is managing her wood very effectively.
This was the second time of coming across the name Richard Fox in the last few days. He had been instrumental in getting the TPO’s on the Patrick Stead trees, and I heard some of the back story from him. Planning applications have areas described as within the red line and within the outer blue line. The trees were external to the red for which full planning consent granted, but it was a grey area about legislation within blue. However, some top down direction came from Ridley and Ben Woolnaugh to say, yes, consider them within. I mentioned the possibility of the Yews being included, he would look into this.

All boundary trees had TPO on them, which could be re-appraised. 5.3 meter clearance of the road determined.

Protection levels:
If in CONSERVATION area – the trees are protected, eg Magnolia House Copper Beech
Where TPO tree lost, it is being removed.
Possibility of getting fresh TPO’s – it must fit the score of TEMPO eg Amenity, Public View

Hedgerow is covered under the 1997 law protecting hedgerows and reversing their grubbing up.
If a TPO tree is felled the fine is £20,000 and at the Magnistrates Court.
If taken to the High Court – eg for a large developer – the limit is unlimited
