Returned from Cornwall, and still no rain. Looking down the tubes, I estimate the land has lost around 40% of the trees.

It is all the more pleasure therefore to take off the plastic sleeves of the hornbeam hedge alongside the community garden. Hornbeam that never should have survived on this sand soil, planted 2 years ago with plenty of rain for 2 springs, and good mulch. A good perspective.
